Smurfs Outfit # 2: Tailor Smurf. Be in a Tailor outfit and have needles sticking out of your Smurf hat. Make sure you get a tape measure to wrap around your neck so your relatives can identify you right away as you act out your part.

Smurfs Outfit # 3: Farmer Smurf. A straw hat and overalls over his blue and white costume will make Farmer Smurf different from the others. He can talk in farmer like manner and discuss this year's crops and following harvest.

Smurfs Outfit # 4: Dreamy Smurf. No accessories for this Smurf who can just come in a basic blue and white outfit. He can sit still and stare into space for times during the event to be the character he came in as.

There are many other Smurf characters with special skills or unique personalities that would fit each of your relatives. Give out awards for best characterization. Have fun and enjoy family bonding the smurfy way.

No matter in what language you first learned about them, you can certainly remember those funny blue creatures and all the adventures they went through in their Smurf village. They were the stars of a comic and television franchise created by Pierre Culliford, a Belgian cartoonist in 1958.

The Smurfs' were a huge success and it didn't take long for all sort of merchandise to appear: video games, figurines, music recordings, you could even find them in theme parks. What could they do next? What would their next stop be? Believe it or not, it was the fashion industry. David Delfin's Spring 2010 collection could very well back this up. Still, Delfin only borrowed their fascination for blue. His collection alone can't award the funny charcaters with the "fashion icon" and "trend setter" titles. But all those websites that offer Smurfs clothes and accessories can!

No matter if you are simply looking for a Halloween costume or something cool and funny to wear for a party where a disguise is mandatory, a Smurf costume could be a cheap, easy and original solution. First and foremost, you must decide what character you want to be. Do you have a soft spot for red? Then the "Papa Smurf" look is the one to go with. "Where do Smurfs come from?" Annabelle asked Toby as he was setting up the last of the small figures in a line stretched across the table. "I don't know," he replied. "Somewhere far away I think". "It must be a jolly cold place. Their skin is always blue," Annabelle remarked

Annabelle and Toby were about to play a game which they often played, testing each other's knowledge of the Smurfs. One of the children would turn their back away, while the other took one of the Smurfs and hid it. The other child then turned back and had to say which one was missing. The Smurfs also enjoyed this game as they liked to play little tricks on humans.

That evening, when the father returned home from work, the children beset him with questions about the Smurfs, like "where do they come from, Daddy?" "Where do they live?" "Are there any bad Smurfs?" and so on. The father was taken by surprise, and had to say "I'm not sure, but I'll find out for you and tell you tomorrow".

After extensive research the father was able to satisfy the children's curiosity the following evening. He explained that the Smurfs lived in a little village made of mushroom houses far away. The Smurfs were a big happy family with an easy going nature. They had different personalities but they all worked together, each doing what he or she did best, for the common good. The father's stories were a source of inspiration for the children who then wanted to find out more about their Smurfs, and to go on and make up their own Smurf stories.

The actual origin of the Smurfs was an idea by a Belgian cartoonist named Pierre Culliford (also known as Peyo), in 1958. The initial comic strip appeared in a Belgian magazine, but only really gained wide appeal when the idea was taken up by Hanna-Barbara Productions.

The name Smurf derives from the French word schtroumpfs meaning "what-you-may-call-its" which apparently came from a mealtime conversation with a friend, when Peyo, forgetting momentarily the word for "salt", asked his friend to pass the schtroumpf, and, when he had finished schtroumpfing, to pass it back.

The word was translated into smurf and a whole world came into being, of little creatures with blue skin and dressed in red, usually with a white hat, and stories of sorcery and wizards.

Over the years Smurfs have featured in animated films such as the adventures of the Smurfs, the Smurfs and the Magic Flute, the Baby Smurf, and Here Come the Smurfs. Sony has announced its intention to begin a trilogy of Smurf stories in film, the first of which is due to be released in 2011. The film will probably star Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, and George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf, amongst others.

The Smurfs are an endearing and enduring bunch of characters that your children will love to play with.

Have you ever tried to chase a blue smurf? They are fast, sneaky and funny, and always in trouble.

Far, far away, in a little mushroom village, live a group of little blue pixies in short trousers and white bonnets called the Smurfs. Only as tall as three apples, they speak in "Smurf", a language that only they understand. The Smurfs are carefree, peaceful creatures that live in harmony with nature. But they have a nasty habit of wanting to act like man, which causes them 1,001 problems.

Some how Papa Smurf made it over to our hospital, and was running up and down the halls. The 6'2 young man who spotted him thought he was so funny and laughed a deep belly laugh most of the evening.

He came up to one of the nurses and said

"Do you see Papa Smurf? He is hiding behind you"

She replied, "No I don't see him"

Young man stated "Be careful don't move he is right behind you"

The nurse said, "Ok" and took a step backwards.

The young man had a shocked looked on his face "You stepped on him! You killed him!"

He dropped his head and walked down the hall.

Was there a smurf? We did not see him - this mentally ill young man did. It was very real to him and he wanted to share papa smurf with the staff.

How does a mental health nurse chase blue papa smurfs and present reality at the same time for good care to that client?

Does Nursing Theory Adequately Prepare Psychiatric Nurses to Work with Delusional Patients?

Anyone in mental health care knows you have to be careful how you find humor in a clients delusional sights - however there are times when you can folow along with them until you reach a point that you can redirect them that papa smurf is only a delusion. This young mans comment was "Yes I know."

It takes trust for a client to bring to the staffs attention about his own delusions and for them to describe to you what Papa Smurf has on and what he is saying and doing. Most people will deny they see or hear things. For the nurse or staff to get a client to trust you enough to share with you the things the voices are saying and what the delusions are doing is a break through in their care.

The nursing theory of mental health nurses is is present reality to these clients and redirect them to the here and now. As a new nurse or a new nurse in this field it is easy to go by the book and present reality. However, to someone who is standing and looking at the blue smurf behind your right leg laughing at them - that is their reality. A nurse/staff can talk with them about their delusion. Let them tell you about it - in details if they will. They open up to you and feel like they can actually talk about what is going on with them. Once they have been reminded that it is not real - they will still come back to you and tell you about their stories even though they know it is just not real.

A mental health nurse has to be able to play with the smurfs, the demons and stay in focus for the real life too.

The joking should be done with the intention of establishing rapport or being supportive or therapeutic in some way. It should never be mean-spirited. And, the patient should not be very upset or in an overly-serious mood. I believe it's easiest and most appropriate to joke with patients with whom we already have established some degree of therapeutic alliance.

The next time you see a blue smurf hiding behind the chair, be careful not to step on them - they are sticky on the bottom of your shoe. It is just a delusion but sometimes - you just have to smile and wave at Papa Smurf.
